Why Start this Blog…To spread information and happiness for no reason (or the best reason of all…to help you)

Hi there,

Welcome to my new blog, the “Mindful Book Blog.”    Thanks for taking the time to visit.   I know that time is a valuable commodity in all of our busy lives, and I feel honored that you are taking a part of your day to read this blog.  I hope that you find value in the time you spent here.

Before I get into the books themselves, I feel obligated to explain why I starting this blog.   I have a busy life and little free time.  I am a professor, a business owner, a student, a fitness instructor, and a mommy.  I also try to be a good friend.  So why take time to start writing a blog???

Well, anyone who knows me well knows that I LOVE LEARNING!   As a kid, I was known to ask questions, many questions.   As an adult, my inquisitive nature has not waned.   I am still asking questions, and I have a thirst for information.

As a born teacher, I ALSO love to share information;   I am know for sharing interesting factoids, from “Did you know that Siri can turn an iPhone’s voice over on?” to “Want to remember the elements in the second and third rows of the periodic table?  Meet my friends…LiBeB CNOFNe and NaMgAl SiPSClAr”.  (Okay, the last one sounds better when spoken and is really most useful to high school chemistry students.)

Point is….I am a born teacher, I always have been!   I know that it is my life’s purpose!

Today, people who don’t know me might assume that, as a college professor and self-admitted information zealot, I love to read.   However, the truth is that I have a bachelor’s in mathematics because it was the major that required the least amount of reading!    I can’t sit still to read for long period of time; when I try, I tend to fall asleep!

BUT,  I am still a voracious consumer of information. I do read frequently, it just tends to be short articles, websites, and journal articles (along with my college students’ papers).  I also am an audio book addict!   (I attribute this to being an auditory learner, according to Howard Gardener’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences.  But this is a conversation for another day!)    I have an Audible subscription, and I am always listening to audio books when I am in the car.

Admittedly, I read quite an assortment of books.   My collection includes everything from Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich to Straight Talk, No Chaser by Steve Harvey.

At first glance, you may wonder what common thread stitches books by Steve Harvey and Napoleon Hill together.   Well, they both provide useful information to help you improve your life.  Yup, that’s right!    The books can help you; they can make you more knowledgeable, more open-minded, more inquisitive, more enlightened, more motivated, and/or more satisfied.

Up to this point, I have been “reading” books to help improve me and have only shared their value with close friends and clients in my fitness classes who wanted to listen.

But, tonight, while listening to my current audiobook (Happy for No Reason by Marci Shimoff) on my way home, I had a thought.  (Honestly, it was more of a voice, but that too is a conversation for another day!)   Why not share the information from these books in a format that could help others?  Why not share the value of these books with others who are looking to improve themselves-mind, body, and/or soul?

So, here it is, the birth of my blog!  I hope that it is helpful and that the posts inspire you to read some of these books.  I also hope that they change your life in a positive way!
